CENTRE at CARE
A Centre for residents and others in the greater community with complex needs designed to provide opportunities that can enhance their quality of life in a natural setting. The Centre will provide opportunities to participate in daily living skills, functional life skills, leisure activities, social interaction and health and wellness.
The facility will have an indoor track, playground, jungle gym, gaming area, four multipurpose therapy rooms, a collaborative space for therapists, BCBA’s office, and a nurse’s office. Adjacent to the courtyard is a heated therapy pool, two relax and ready rooms, and restrooms. Beyond the indoor track, double doors connect to the bike storage so residents can bring their bikes outside. The garage is designed to accommodate four vans with accessible access for loading, and interior access through the bike storage for safety. Depending on the location of the building on the site, the program elements can be mirrored to ensure the pool entrance is connected to the courtyard shared with the Care homes.
The indoor track receives natural light from three sides – clerestories above the garage, interior windows surrounding the indoor jungle gym, and a wall of windows facing the CARE homes courtyard. Pops of color bring character to the space, while the warm wood ceiling balances the industrial look of exposed steel trusses.
The block of therapy rooms includes a central observation area flooded with light, providing individual rooms access to indirect natural light. The viewing area is wide enough to accommodate seating, viewing and circulation. Rooms are spacious for a therapist and another adult to explore various activities.
